Fraudster loses pension pot to confiscation order 20 years later

The pension pot belonging to the mastermind of a £1 billion fraud has been seized more than 20 years after he was exposed, marking the most high-profile pension seizure by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) to date. Virendra Rastogi mixed with celebrities and politicians as the chief executive of RBG Resources, an international metal trading business with headquarters near London’s Piccadilly Circus.

The company’s advisers included Jack Cunningham (now Lord Cunningham of Felling), a former Labour cabinet office minister; Lord Woolmer of Leeds, a Labour peer; Lord Gray, a former Conservative energy minister; and Lord Holme of Cheltenham, a Liberal Democrat peer. Rastogi was named as the 209th richest man in Britain, with a fortune calculated by The Sunday Times Rich List of £150 million.
