No fewer than 40 fishermen in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on Monday, killed and butchered a hippopotamus from the Yauri River after it was said to have killed two members of the community.
The News Agency of Nigeria learnt that the hippopotamus killed one Usman Maigadi, a guard at the Orchard Farm owned by the Emir of Yauri, Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, on September 22.
Shu’aibu said, “If you could recall, the hippo killed Yauri Emir’s guard and another farmer in September.
We can’t keep an animal that is killing people anyhow, and all the people it killed were not after the animal.
“The brave fishermen subsequently butchered the animal into pieces and shared the meat with the people.”..
