Free for law school clinics
If your clinic helps founders and small businesses, Tellbrief is free, with no pilot limit and nothing to sign. Each client answers plain questions before the first meeting. Your clinic checks their names, and the brief opens only after they clear.
Why it fits a clinic
- Names before details. Conflicts come before the details. Here you see the client’s name, the company’s and the other side’s first. Nothing else opens until you clear them, and if you decline, the brief is deleted unread.1
- Students read the matter before the first meeting. Before they meet the client, they read the situation in the client’s own words, the issues to raise, what to ask and which documents settle each one. The issue notes are drafted for a lawyer to check, so they’re where the supervisor’s review starts, not an answer.
- Clients see which records to bring. The brief lists what to have ready for their situation, from the cap table to the other side’s draft contract, and the document request is ready to send.
- It sits after your own intake. Keep your application and eligibility form. Send the link once you’ve decided to look at a matter, so the brief covers the business, not whether the client qualifies.
Semesters and supervision
- One dashboard for the clinic. Keep its key in the clinic’s password manager, shared with the supervising attorney and the students who clear names.
- A new key each semester. Ask us when students change or someone leaves. The old key stops working the day we change it, and everything already on the dashboard stays.
- Save briefs to the clinic’s file. Your copy on Tellbrief is deleted 14 days after it reaches you, so the file is where it stays.
- Notices go to one address. Use the clinic’s shared inbox, not a student’s, so a conflict check doesn’t wait on someone who has moved on.
Before our first meeting, please answer some questions about your business here: your clinic’s Tellbrief link. It’s about 30 questions, most of them one tap. At the end you’ll give the names involved, so we can check for conflicts before we hear the details. Nothing reaches us until you send it.
Change the wording to suit the clinic. Your dashboard has it with your link in it, and the setup guide shows where it goes in Calendly, Acuity and the rest.
What it costs
Nothing, for as long as the clinic uses it. There’s no bill, no limit on briefs and no point where your link pauses. Tellbrief’s price is for law firms. Clinics pay nothing.
We set up each link with a lawyer at the clinic, and we look the supervising attorney up in the state bar’s directory first, because the link sends clients’ names to whoever holds the key.
If you’d like to help
Nothing is required. If the clinic’s lawyers spot something the issue notes miss or get wrong, tell us. We fix the issue library, and the fix reaches every brief after it. We won’t use the clinic’s or the school’s name anywhere without written permission.
Set up your clinic’s link
Tell us the clinic, the school, the state and the supervising attorney. We’ll reply by email to set it up.

Your clinic stays responsible for conflict checks, supervision and deciding whether to take a matter. Please don’t send client information in your message. If the school reviews vendors, the firm packet is the page to forward.
